20muses Round #6: The X-Files

majorminusFor this round I chose #2 with the options 1 (Close vs Far) and 3 (Muted vs Vibrant). no one is surprised.
I was sick with a bad cold this past week so I finally had the time to continue binging the X-Files, I'm now into season 4. It got me really inspired to make a full set (I finished this set wayyy faster than I anticipated which goes to show how inspired I was for once. :P). Things are really starting to pick up and I'm dying to get to the next episode to see what happens! I'm getting through the seasons a lot faster because I'm skipping most of the filler eps and sticking to the main mythology episodes. I'll go back and watch more closely the other episodes later after I've finished all the seasons.
So since I'm in a huge aliens/paranormal mood I started picking through playlists like I usually do and I found this suuuper awesome fanmix and I was listening to that while making these. As well as Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys because it's fun and I think Mulder would love it. :P

It has similar elements like, each show has their own off shoot branch within the FBI. In this case it's called the X-Files. This seems equally lead story wise in the paranormal (aliens and such) along with evil government entities and the search for the 'truth' that they cover up. Less is explained by 'science', though Scully tries to explain their cases from a scientists standpoint (I hear the science of the show is awful but I wouldn't know the difference lol) and leans more on what you do or do not believe to be real from what I've seen so far. It's fun to see the differences between Mulder the believer and Scully the skeptic, their friendship and how they work together.
I feel like they have a different 'feel' between the two shows. Fringe comes off as more slick, fast paced, and easily explained. While X-Files is just as fast paced it has more details and depth to it so it seems like it's going slower when it's not and it's not always so easily explained, which imo makes it more fun to explore the 'what ifs' after the episode is over instead of being explained away to make way for the next villain of the week in the next episode. It leaves you with a sense of there's way more out there which may or may not be proven to be real so it makes you fee like the universe is so much bigger.
It's been a while since I've seen Fringe so I may be missing something but I think this gives a general idea, I hope? :P
I'm watching it on Netflix (US) and it has the first 9 seasons available.
